The Fabulous Sochi Life
Priscilla Esser
My life in a nutshell is BUSY! Being a jazz kitten, gym mouse, and SoChilite...it's a wonder that I don't topple off my stilettos. That's what makes living in SoChi SoChic!
Priscilla Esser visits Tybee Island, Georgia!

I knew that the weekend would be Fabulous.
Nothing that is filtered through the uber dynamic Toren Anderson is anything less than that. With Jimmy Leg off on assignment last week, Bitsy's school drama, and a HEFTY dose of KRAZY that vicariously got sprinkled into my life, a weekend on Tybee Island sounded like the perfect stress relieving antidote.
We were to be the guests of Oceanfront Cottage Rentals, owners Stayce and Lannie Jarrell. I just assumed we would be staying in a nice little beachfront condo some where on the island. I could not have been more wrong! Oceanfront Cottage Rentals deals in super luxe privately owned properties. Our house named "Stairway to Heaven" was a 3 story, 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath mansion with a gourmet kitchen and an elevator.
Sitting on the island's North Beach, the breathtaking views left me speechless while the master bathroom left JL in "Man Heaven".
Jimmy Leg and I didn't have time to dally at the house as we were to be Stacye and Lannie's guests at a Low Country Boil. I had already heard wonderful things about her from Terrell. Arriving at their home we were immediately welcomed by our attentive hostess. Stacye is not only charming and engaging. She's got beauty queen looks and a head for serious business. On top of all that, she is a riot! T was right, I liked her immediately.
We mixed and mingled, ate the some delish food (the black bean soup Stacye made was divine!) and were treated to an impromptu concert by Toren Anderson's sons Aidan Thomas and Jordan Hornaday. These two brother's leave the Jo-Bros in the dust!
The plan for later that evening was to hit one of the island's favorite haunts called Doc's Bar on Tybee. Truly a favorite among the local's due to Tybee's 100+ year old maraca player Miss Sylvia. After a night of cutting the rug our little group made our way to Gayna's. The draw? They serve food until 2AM and it happened to be Karaoke night. There we dined on two types of balls (insert joke here), crab and conch. At that time of the morning, they were delicious! But the real fun started when JL took the stage and made the ladies Sah-Woon. My man had that crowd in the palm of his hand. With his velvety voice, his tiger striped blazer and movie star looks, the ladies were all over him. Finally at 3:30AM we made our way back to "Stairway to Heaven". I immediately fell asleep with the sound of waves right outside our balcony. Waking up to the view pictured below was bliss.
The next morning the gang had planned to grab some brekky at the Breakfast Club, a tiny little joint who's claim to fame was catering the breakfast for JFK Jr's nuptials. Make sure you nab a spot on the counter and take in the show. It was like watching a Vegas act.The cooks move with lightening speed, cooking and dicing on the griddle is comparable to a hibachi chef at Benihana's. Following breakfast was a personal tour of the island by Stacye Jarrell. She showed places I never would have found on my own.
Taking us by Fort Screvin, the picturesque light house and the original officer's' cottages, I was amazed by the island's postcard charm.
After our tour we returned to Stairway to Heaven and relaxed on the giant porch. With the cool breeze and the previous late night I was ready to doze off, but bigger things were in store for us, Double D sized big! We attended the Tybee Tatas "fun-raiser" where 30+ hunky men strutted their stuff in custom decorated bras.
Represented were "Headlights", Hersey Kisses, pasties and tassels galore, Georgia Bulldogs, and (my favorite) the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket bra with two prominent "Stingers". It was such a delightful event and raising money for breast cancer made it even more so. I was sorry we couldn't stay longer but we were to make one last stop before heading home. Cafe Loco was the last stop of the day. Meeting up with Toren and friends, watching the sun set into the water, and eating some crab claws with a frosty brew was the perfect way to end this island weekend.
There is such a laid back welcoming vibe all around Tybee. It has made me anxious to make the short 2+ hour drive to an Oceanfront Cottage Rental and spend a little more time enjoying all that Tybee has to offer.
Thank you, Priscilla for the Great article! We loved having you visit Tybee Island and hope that you will be back.
